Life is Short - Don't Waste It!

I am quite shocked at the negative attitude my daughters have towards Obama and I can't help but wonder where they picked it up (school?). I don't really talk politics around my house but the girls do know I voted for Obama way back when and I did explain to them why I was voting for him because during the primary they wanted Hilary (is it weird that they even cared?). In the last few months there have been a few instances where I have mentioned something like for example that our city wasn't having a regatta this year because of money problems and after I finished the sentence they added, "because of Obama.". They have added this to a few other things I have said and I find it quite odd. It makes me wonder where they are hearing all this negative Obama talk. When the whole Joe Wilson "you lie" thing happened, I was talking about it to NG and my littlest piped up and said, "that wouldn't have happened if they had McCain". I thought kids picked up their parents political attitudes? When the school address flap came up, I asked the kids if they had watched Obama and turns out they didn't - littlest said the teacher couldn't find the right channel and oldest said it came on too late? The Friday before his address I read a couple articles online about it and some of the comments were shocking to me; I couldn't believe people felt that the President speaking to children in school was some kind of brainwashing plan. I guess Bush did it too way back when and I don't remember being concerned about it. What I find really ridiculous is how so many conservatives blame Obama for the mess we're in - he's been in office for what a whole 9 months and the stuff that caused most of the economic crisis happened before he even took office!!! Then the whole he's not eligible to be President thing is even more hilarious. Now, I wish I had made a bigger deal out of Gore winning the national vote but not the electoral college. Okay enough politics for today.

When I was in college I wrote an article for my Journalism class about how some teachers (elementary and college level) influence their students with lessons or just the way they comment on things. I was amazed. Then I thought back to my own school years and remember that in third grade I was pretty passionate to save the dolphins and the rain forest ... all because that's what my teacher had taught. Luckily as I got older I learned to actually think for myself and to read about both sides and make my own decision. It's amazing though what kids learn and from where when it comes to politics.

I'm so "politiced" out these days. I have said lately that I wish I could take the rest of the Republician party and throw them in the Potomac River. The fear mongering that is in large part causing such resistance to change in DC and the rest of the country today is coming from the Republican base that is mostly out to protect the greedy corperations and elite rich. And if McCain/Palin were in office today, this country would most likely be in far worse shape. That said, I don't agree with everything Obama is doing, but at least he is trying... I just can't get over how much hatred some people seem to have for him.
I could go on a while, but I'd better stop ;)

It is odd that the kids notice or care I don't really remember much about politics when I was young other than the Reagan shooting. Of course in school it was talked about with much gravity and a sense of awfulness, the president was shot. But the moment we were on the bus for our 45 minute bus ride the singing and foolishness started. I was 10 mind you but we were actually singing "Reagan got shot" when my mom heard us outside she was so angry. Unbelievably so considering how much negative stuff she had said in passing about reaganomics and republicans. But I don't think she understood how impressionable we were. I guess what I am trying to say is the negative is easy to pick up, the positive much harder.

I'm not a republican or a democrat, I have always been an independent. But, I love to read. And I read anything and everything. What I've come to the conclusion is. If they had released his birth certificate instead of filing a law suit to bury it, then the whole "ineligible" thing to become president thing would have gone away.

My beef with him at this point would be things like a 10 million dollar trip sponsored by the taxpayer for him to fly across seas in the middle of a health care debate to speak for Chicago in the Olympics. A million dollar date night flying to New York just for dinner. Them closing down Pennsylvania Ave during rush hour for his wife to go pick up 2 things from the grocery store and them flying in pizza from Kansas City all at taxpayer expense. The economy is in the tank, we're in the middle of a crisis that dates back to CLINTON - not BUSH (there is video of Bush talking to Congress in 2001 saying that if things didn't change -we would end up where we are now) and the Obamas are spending taxpayer money like a slap in the face. That upsets me because I don't know about you, but I can't afford to buy my kids fresh fruit anymore (and yes, I could before). So, I say that my vote for the next election (like many americans) is being decided now with how this stuff is affecting my family and what is being done by the current administration and congress to change it. And so far all I've seen is a big waste of money and a stimulus plan with more pork than stimulus.

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I wanted to respond to you. Diesel is a Mastiff. He's very much a character. I adopted him from a family in Pennslyvania. He caught a ride to Texas with a rodeo stock contractor and the rest is history. He's been with us for about 3 months.
